Hug a Teacher

Better mood today :)

Amy and I went to see the new movie with Hillary Swank, "Freedom Writers" last night. It's a true story of a first year teacher in the inner city of LA and how she reaches these kids that everyone else has written off as hopeless. I won't say too much about it, (although I'd like to tell the whole story) but I think it's one that is definitely worth seeing.

Ya know, Amy has been teaching 1st and 2nd grades in schools that the children could at one point end up in the same situation as the kids in the movie last night. The children that she has had over the last few years are needy, often behind academically, from broken homes, have seen and understand drugs, jail, things that 6 yr. olds shouldn't. I have seen Amy love these kids, teach them to read, and love learning, spend her paycheck on supplies for them, cry for them, worry about them. It may not be where she thought she would be when she was at SIU getting her degree, but it is where God knew she was needed. There may not be a movie about her ( or many other of the great teachers out there) but she is impacting the little lives of these children forever. (love you, A.)

Busy Saturday ahead. We've had our Tony's Donuts, which is not a good start to my Weight Watchers re-committment (yikes) and it's time to get movin'. The day started with an entire hour of snuggling with Katie in my bed. It's gonna be a good day. :)

Thanks to Amy for all of her efforts to touch and change little lives--only God knows how many that "their teacher" was the one to inspire to be all they can be.
Thanks to all the Moms who spend those moments snuggling in the bed with their babies, and indulging in "family-donut-time" on Saturday morning---Trust me, there were NO calories in the one you ate, just lots of love! Enjoy today! Love, Mom
