O.K., so we may not be the smartest people in the world to start a remodeling project in the midst of pre-holiday stress but when opportunity knocks, especially when it includes kitchen cabinets, I'm gonna answer. Most of you know how little (tiny, even) our house is and that we outgrew it oh, about 5 years ago. And that for a mom cooking for a family of 5 one drawer and 2 1/2 feet of counter space can be a real problem, but one that I've learned to live with. Now we have the chance to turn our garage into an extended kitchen and family room. When it is done it will an incredible blessing to our family. Right now, in pre-Christmas mode, it's a little more than overwhelming, but still a good thing. I'm going to try to use the blog to document our progress as we go. I'll wait to add the "before" pictures when I have another one to compare it to. Our contractor Clay started today and off we go.

I'm gonna vent a little about a 'certain' Kohls employee. He's a real piece of work. Probably not old enough to use the stove by himself, and yet here he is ringing up my purchases. He refers to the candle I purchased as "this stupid thing" and complained on and on and on about the idea of having to take the extra effort to open the show box to check that they matched. (wow, that is exhausting) Then he proceeds to literally wad up and STUFF the clothes I bought into the bag with all the other stuff. He didn't know how to make a gift receipt and in the fury of it all accidently flung off his lanyard nametag. His name is Brian, by the way. So that was my first experience with Brian.
So last night I go into Kohl's again. When I finish my shopping I see him at the counter and avoid it like the plague. When I find another open one a little later with no one at the register, who comes to check me out but you-know-who. I could hardly look at him, knowing that he was going to be the subject of my blog entry today. He did wad once again, talked to the lady behind me and helped her while I was trying to pay and smelled the hand cream I bought, commenting on how nice it was. I am offically not saying anything sweet or particularly kind about Brian. I find it annoying and frustrating to have a person handling my stuff I'm paying good $$ for calling it stupid and wadding it up. I think the manager's name is Bert. (Brian made a comment like, "oh, geez, here comes Bert". Bert and I may have a talk.
Here's a couple of snow day pictures: And speaking of Pictures...a big, giant congratulations to my mom for winning 1st place in the Mystery Tour Photography contest at John A. Logan. You Rock!!!

Love the pictures--our little snow angels--precious. Ah, yes, a new kitchen, even during the holidays, is well worth it--When it is finished, you will KNOW you make it through any situation, and it will be marvelous.
Now for the Kohl's employee. What can I say, he must not have heard of a woman's scorn, and know how blessed he is that you can still bridle your tongue. Yes, the blog is a great place to vent, and we all can identify with your experience. It is our chance to "give" to strangers during this season, the "undeserved grace" in these situations. As the old saying goes--"If we fail the test, it is okay, the Lord will keep on giving it to us until we get it right."
Keep us posted on the remodeling progress. I am excited for you all. I love you lots. Mom
Congrats to Mom for winning first place! I wasn't suprised-she's so multi-talented. Just like her daughter! Love, love, love the photos of the kids-great light and super crisp. I envy you and that camera of yours! CanNOT wait to see remodeling in progress pix. I'm so excited for you!
It was good to read a new blog today about all that's going on with you. What an exciting thing to remodel -- just like any project I guess things have to look worse before the big finish. I'll make sure to watch for the pictures you post.
I saw info. about your class with Ali on Patti's blog. How cool was that for all of you! Maybe you'll even make it into Creating Keepsakes magazine with your photo! I would've been SO THERE if it was Springfield, MO! (Or just closer than Illinois) That's great you were able to do it.
Miss you and talk to you soon.
Jacki
I forgot to say I agree with Patti about your pictures! So creative to have the kids lay in the snow for a shot. Oh to think of those things like you do!
